Facebook News Feed Changes Again

It seems like it was just the other week Facebook announced News Feed changes and now yet another update has been released. As part of their ‘Feed Quality Program’ Facebook is now promoting links to sites it thinks you’ll spend more time looking at.

This change comes after the company did research with users suggesting that articles that might not be interacted with are still valuable additions to a News Feed. For example, serious current events or a sad news article might not be ‘likeable’, but users still want to see and read them.

These updates should encourage more quality content being shared on Facebook, as the length of time a user spends reading or viewing content will be used as an indicator of what should be promoted more in individual News Feeds.

Visibility will be judged by the interest of a user, how the post has performed previously, the creator, the type of post it is and how recent the post is.

These updates should result in Facebook becoming a more personalised, tailored experience for users. Additionally, Facebook will also promote content from a wider range of pages, rather than allowing a feed to be dominated by posts from a single publisher.
