The ‘Time Well Spent’ movement has been taken to heart by Facebook, and it was just a matter of time before other social media platforms followed their example.
Snapchat appears to be the first to follow in Facebook’s footsteps, following their major redesign in December 2017, which separated personalities and organisations from friends.
Snapchat is now offering the ability to mute certain people without blocking or deleting them. This ‘Do Not Disturb’ option can be found in the settings menu for a person or group.
This is in addition to some new text options Snapchat is rolling out, designed to compete with the new selection of text types Instagram Stories has introduced.
While Snapchat’s big redesign was met with mixed reviews from users, these new features are focussed on making Snapchat the most flexible visual messaging app on the market, and have already seen results, with Snapchat boosting its user growth rate and revenue.
97% of all content shared on Snapchat is created using the in-camera app, and more than half of all 13-34 year olds in the US use Snapchat’s AR filters, increasing the potential for monetisation via sponsored creative tools, with Snapchat saying they earned $100 million for their content partners in 2017.
